WHAT IS "HARDWARE"?

In computer jargon, hardware is any physical device that can run software or computer programs. This can be a desktop computer, a server, even a phone. Hardware is the electronic component of a computer system.

ROLES

Computers in a network can fulfill many roles. Typically, the desktop or laptop computer the user interacts with the most plays the role of "client". Any computer that provides something the client needs is referred to as a "server". OTher types of hardware that connect to a computer such as printers, scanners, disk drives and the like are called "peripherals" though they can also fulfill the roll of "servers". Many of the roles are interchangable, but basically all of the components required a real, physical box that performs a function.
