FAQs

Q?When does Windows Server 2003 reach the end of support?
A.

According to the Microsoft Support Lifecyle section on 14 July 2015, Microsoft will end extended support on all versions of Windows Server 2003/R2.

Q?Windows XP is no longer supported, what does that mean?
A.

This means that the operating system will cease receiving security updates and bug fixes from Microsoft. Also, Microsoft will no longer offer technical support for the product.

This doesn’t mean that the software will cease to function, rather it will become more dangerous to use the product as time goes on since security vulnerabilities will continue to be discovered and exploited.

Q?How do I back up my data and how important is it to do so?
A.

While there are numerous methods out there for backing up data, it really boils down to a couple of options, file-based and image-based.

File-based only backs up the individual files and folders. Recovering from a disaster would likely take some time since you would need to re-install your operating system and any ancillary programs prior to restoring your backup.

Image-based backups are different in that they back up a copy of the operating system and all the data associated with it, including the system state, third party applications, configuration, etc. and saves it as a single file. Some even offer the ability to “virtually boot” a backup file either for disaster recovery testing or an actual disaster event.

Given the speed of recovery, it makes sense for business to look at image-based over file-based.

Q?How do I protect my business from Hackers?
A.

While nothing is 100% effective, a little hardware and some basic knowledge will go a long way toward protecting you from hackers. Here are a few suggestions: Make sure your business has a commercial firewall in place. Consider installing a Web Filter. Make sure your antivirus software is up to date. Never open e-mail attachments from someone you don’t know. If you receive an e-mail attachment from someone you do know, think before you open it. It’s not uncommon for someone to get a virus that sends itself out via e-mail attachment to someone’s entire address book.

Q?I would like to have some of my employees work from home. Can you help me make that happen?

Q?What is the Cloud?
A.
